Volunteers of AAP student wing Chhatra-Yuva Sangharsh Samiti on Tuesday protested against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in the excise policy case.
Students today took out a torch march in the national capital, which the Aam Aadmi Party described as a “torch of struggle” and “a response to the tyranny of the dictator”.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case. His arrest has created a political stir. Kejriwal, currently lodged in judicial custody in Tihar jail, was named as AAP’s star campaigner for the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AAP posted in Hindi: “This is the torch of struggle. This is a response to the tyranny of a dictator. Under the leadership of CYSS, Delhi students took out a torch march against the arrest of their Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‼️”
It further reads, “The students of Delhi stand with Arvind Kejriwal, who raised the flag of education revolution in the world.”
The student wing of AAP in Telangana has also joined the nationwide student protests against Kejriwal’s arrest at the Arts College of Osmania University, Hyderabad, along with student organizations affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier today, the Delhi Chief Minister sent a message to the people of the country from Tihar Jail, saying “My name is Arvind Kejriwal and I am not a terrorist”.
Arvind Kejriwal’s statement is taken from the 2010 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘My Name is Khan’ in which the actor famously says “My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist” in a scene from the film.
Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Sanjay Singh claimed that the BJP was trying to demoralize and break Kejriwal out of “malice and vengeance” but he would emerge stronger.
He also alleged that a “notorious criminal” lodged in Tihar jail was allowed to meet his lawyer and wife in the barrack, while Kejriwal had to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in front of a glass screen.
