New Delhi, October 9 (Language) According to a survey released on Thursday, about 65 percent of students think that artificial intelligence (AI) skills are extremely important for their future career.
Sanjay Ghodawat University (SGU), which conducted the survey, said in a statement, AI is rapidly transforming industries across the world, making AI literacy one of the most important skills for tomorrow’s workforce.
A new survey from SGU, titled ‘The Importance of AI Skills in Higher Education’, reveals that more than 65 percent of college students consider AI skills to be extremely important to their future careers.
The survey conducted among 5,000 students across five cities including Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Delhi and Bengaluru in STEM, business, humanities and social sciences indicates a significant shift in student attitudes as AI is reshaping the job industry globally.
Notably, 26 percent of respondents strongly support curriculum reform, calling for mandatory integration of AI-based learning and skill-building programs in higher education.
Vinayak Bhosale, trustee of Sanjay Ghodawat University, said in the statement, “AI is no longer a niche skill – it is becoming a core competency in every profession. Our survey shows that students understand this change and want universities to prepare them for it. At Sanjay Ghodawat University, we see it as our responsibility to embed AI learning in education, so every graduate is equipped to lead and succeed in a digital-first economy.”
The survey also highlighted a serious gap between industry expectations and graduate preparedness, with more than 16 percent of students admitting they lack the skills needed for AI-powered workplaces.
This disconnect underlines the urgent need for higher education institutions to adapt their curriculum and better align with emerging industry demands.
It added that as the workforce landscape changes, these findings are poised to drive meaningful policy and curriculum reforms across the country that will ensure students are truly equipped to thrive in an AI-powered future.
Sanjay Ghodawat University, located in Kolhapur, offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in engineering, management, law, design and pharmacy.
