Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on July 2 that he would hold office for a full five -year term, to relax speculation of leadership change in the Congress -ruled state.
“Yes, I will become the CM of Karnataka. Why do you doubt?” In response to the questions of journalists, the experienced leader said whether he would be CM for five years.
DK Shivkumar, deputy of Siddaramaiah, replied, he said that he did not have an option but to support CM Siddaramaiah.
Shivkumar told news agency Annie, “What option do I have? I have to stand near her.
The comments of the top Karnataka leaders come to the end of the Chief Minister at the end of this year, especially after speculation in political circles within the Congress. As Mint said earlier, the speculation is based on a power-sharing agreement which includes Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar.
“I have to go from my party. My party is important. My leadership decision is important. Our aim is to bring 2028 (state assembly elections), we will work for it,” Shivkumar said.
It seems that the Congress party has resolved the Karnataka leadership crisis for now. The party has decided to nominate Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister.
There are five reasons here that the Congress decided to move forward with Siddaramaiah for now:
1- Bihar Election 2025
Bihar is the only state to go to elections in 2025. Sources said that the Congress party feels that removing a leader from a marginalized community (OBC) ahead of elections in Bihar would not have a good message in a state that would not have a good message with the voters of the back and backward class in sufficient numbers.
Some leaders of the Congress party feel that by removing Siddaramaiah, the BJP in Bihar will be given political outlook to attack India’s block to join the Congress and its ally RJD in Bihar.
2- Karnataka Congress President
If Shivkumar wanted to become CM, he would have to leave the post of President of his Karnataka Pradesh Congress. Sources said that Shivkumar is not keen to leave the post. He fears that the loyalists of Siddaramaiah will be appointed for this.
3- ‘Money Laundering’ label
After the declaration of assembly election results in May 2023, Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar faced strict competition for the post of Chief Minister, but the Congress later assured and made him deputy CM.
Instead of Shivkumar, the Congress chose Siddaramaiah that was later being investigated by central agencies. This time too, that idea has inspired the Congress party to continue with Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister. Shivkumar also jailed for more than a month in 2019 on charges of money laundering in 2019.
According to reports, the Congress party is afraid that the BJP’s decision at the Center may attack Shivkumar with these matters if he becomes CM and probably puts the CM sitting in jail again.
4- Bengaluru Stamped
Another factor that is not going with Shivkumar is a stampede of June 4 in Bengaluru who killed 11 people during the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL Vijay parade. While the cricket team has been organized ‘Prima Feshi responsible’, Shivkumar has also come under fire to allow the gathering despite the mob control warning.
5- Ashok Gehlot vs Sachin Pilot
The Congress does not want to repeat the mistakes of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in Karnataka, which is one of its three states in power. The other two Congress -ruled states are Telangana and Himachal Pradesh.
Yes, I will become the CM of Karnataka. Why do you doubt?
For example, in Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot vs. Sachin Pilot controversy may cost the party in the Rajasthan assembly elections in 2023. The Congress can also be careful in the middle state in 2020 due to the controversy in Mamal Nath vs Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will vote for the assembly elections in 2028.
What Choices Do I Have? I have to stand with him and support him.
