10 NASA images that will blow your mind: From intense solar flares to stunning Jupiter peppermint

National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) images serve as a window to the world of the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars. They often keep us updated about what is happening in our universe and space.

The American space agency NASA constantly keeps an eye on the surface of the Sun and keeps an eye on every activity happening there. In a recent image of the Sun’s surface, NASA captured a group of strong solar flares erupting during a solar storm on the Sun’s surface. This image was taken by NASA on November 6.

Solar flares are powerful explosions of energy. Flares and solar eruptions can affect radio communications, the electrical power grid and navigation signals and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.

The US space agency recently shared a new set of fresh photos capturing the surface of Jupiter.

The NASA image captured different phases of the planet and highlighted its striking features including active volcanoes, lava on the moon and more. These images were captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft on October 27, 2024.

The spacecraft was sent into space to unravel the mysteries related to the gas giant’s origin and evolution, its moons and the solar system and beyond. The spacecraft is scheduled to continue surveying the planet until September 2025.

Unlike the other NASA images mentioned earlier, this one captures a rare view of Earth from space. Long-exposure photo captures Earth’s streak of city lights. The image was taken by NASA astronaut Don Pettit on October 24, 2024. The green glow of the Earth’s atmosphere is also visible on the horizon.

The solar system’s third-largest moon – almost as large as the planet Mercury – Callisto was first observed orbiting Jupiter in 1610 by astronomer Galileo Galilei. Callisto has been pounded by comets and asteroids for 4 billion years, leaving its rocky, icy surface. Scientists believe that, like fellow moon Europa, Callisto may have a vast ocean beneath it.

NASA’s image was captured by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE. This eerie green object is nothing but a nebula in space. It was named ‘Witch Hat’ due to the nebula’s striking resemblance to a witch. The billowy clouds of this nebula are a star nursery.

The colorful round celestial object is nothing but our Moon! The composite picture was created by NASA from images taken by the Galileo spacecraft. The image of Earth’s moon is a mix of red, orange and blue. Different colors of Earth’s satellite highlight different features on the Moon including lunar highlands, volcanic lava, lunar seas, etc.
