Amid the ongoing internal power struggle within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the decision on her possible successor will be taken collectively by the party and not by her alone.
“I am not a party, we are the party. This is a collective family, and decisions will be taken collectively,” Mamata Banerjee told news channel AyraNews24x7 Bangla in an interview on Friday.
He also rejected the rumors going on about his dominance in TMC.
His comments come amid the ongoing debate over the old leaders considered loyal to Mamata versus the next generation leaders considered close to Abhishek Banerjee.
TMC national general secretary and Mamata’s nephew Abhishek is more popular among party supporters than any other party leader.
The TMC party supremo also clarified that TMC stands as a disciplined party where no one can dictate his terms or dominate others.
“The party will decide what is best for the people. We have MLAs, MPs, booth workers, it is a joint effort.”
“Everyone (old and new generation leaders) is important,” Banerjee said. Today’s newcomer will be tomorrow’s veteran.”
Talking about political consultants, he said, “Some strategists do surveys sitting at home and change them later. They can arrange things but cannot bring voters. It is the booth workers who know the villages and the people who actually win elections.”
“They are like artisans who do their work in exchange for money. But elections are not won by them,” he said.

Speaking about the India Bloc alliance, Mamata Banerjee expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the opposition faction, indicating her intention to take over the reins of the alliance if the opportunity presents itself.
The TMC supremo said she can carry the dual responsibility of running the opposition front while continuing her role as the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
She said, “I had formed the India Block, now it is up to those who are leading it to manage it. If they cannot run it, what can I do? All I would say is that by taking everyone together, Need to move.” ,
