To become an ADC, candidates have to go through five important stages.

ADCs are selected from the ranks of the Indian Armed Forces.
The post of Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President of India is a prestigious role in the Indian Armed Forces. ADCs assist the President in both personal and administrative matters, ensuring the smooth functioning of the Office of the President. They act as an important bridge between the President and various government departments. In India, senior officers such as Major Generals and their equivalents in the Navy and Air Force have Aides-de-Camp (ADC), who are usually selected from their own units. The service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force each have three ADCs. The President of India is supported by an Honorary ADC from the Territorial Army as well as five ADCs, three from the Army, one from the Navy and one from the Air Force. The President may also appoint special honorary ADCs, which include senior officers such as service chiefs.
However, the selection of ADC is an internal process within the armed forces. The candidates who are selected are generally young, highly skilled officers who are rigorously examined on various parameters. Final selection is done through interview process. Therefore, if a candidate aspires to become an ADC, he or she has to join the armed forces.
The roles and responsibilities associated with the ADC are:
The ADC is responsible for planning and managing the President’s daily schedule.
ADCs serve as the main point of contact between the Office of the President and various government departments.
ADCs handle tasks including managing correspondence, making travel arrangements and providing advice and guidance on personal matters.
They ensure safety and security during official events.
In some situations, the ADC may be called upon to represent the President at meetings or events.

ADCs are selected from the ranks of the Indian Armed Forces.
Candidates should have experience in government service.
Candidates must be proficient in English and at least one Indian language.
Selection Process:
Firstly the candidates are selected on the basis of their government departments or ministries.
Selected candidates undergo a screening process, which includes analysis of their service records, performance appraisal and personal interview.
Candidates who will be shortlisted will have to appear for interview by a high level selection committee.
Selected candidates then undergo a security clearance process that includes a background check, personal interview, and review of their financial and personal records.
After going through these four stages, candidates are finally formally appointed as ADC to the President of India.
