WhatsApp is testing a new Peripherals feature for iOS users, which will show devices like Apple Watch linked to the account. Know how this feature works and why it is beneficial for users…
Peripherals feature is coming to WhatsApp.WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for its iOS users, which will make it easier than ever to identify the device linked to the account. This new update is currently reaching some users through the TestFlight beta program, but there are hints that it may gradually be made available in the stable version as well.
Under this new feature, WhatsApp has added a new option named Peripherals in the Linked Devices section. Its purpose is to show those devices which automatically connect to the WhatsApp account without scanning the QR code or entering the 6-digit code. Such connections happen automatically in the background, due to which the user is often not even aware of it.
Currently only Apple Watch support
Currently, only Apple Watch is being supported in this Peripherals list. When Apple Watch is linked to a WhatsApp account, it appears in the list. Along with this, the name of the device and the time it was last active are also visible. This makes it clear to the user whether their watch is connected to WhatsApp and whether the messages and notifications are syncing properly or not.
However, one important thing about this feature is that Peripherals cannot be removed directly from the settings of WhatsApp. If a user wants to separate Apple Watch from WhatsApp, then he will have to uninstall the WhatsApp app present in the watch. By doing this, message sync will automatically stop and the device will be removed from the Peripherals list.
Will get more security
This new feature of WhatsApp is being considered an important step towards increasing the transparency and security of the account. With this, users will be able to easily see which devices have access to their account. If any unknown or suspicious device is seen, users can be alert in time.
It is expected that in the coming time, WhatsApp will support this Peripherals feature for more devices. At present, this update for iOS users is being seen as an attempt to make account management easier and more reliable.
