West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was seen playing drums and dancing with tribals during a meeting on Tuesday. After the cyclone wreaked havoc in Jalpaiguri, the TMC supremo left for the hill district late on Sunday night. During her visit, Banerjee also met the victims at Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital and took stock of the situation.
Visuals shared online showed the senior politician clapping and swaying as he joined a group of dancing locals. He also played the drum while meeting the tribals in Jalpaiguri.
This incident has also come to light a few days before the Lok Sabha elections. India Bloc member TMC has announced a list of 42 candidates and intends to contest alone in the eastern state. Voting will begin in West Bengal in all seven phases from April 1.
Mamata Banerjee reached Jalpaiguri late on Sunday night after five people died and more than 100 were injured in the cyclonic storm. Two others are admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
“The government is making every possible effort to help the victims. 5000 houses have been damaged. The number of partially and completely damaged houses has been assessed. The administration is providing relief kits to everyone…Farmers’ crops have also been destroyed, the administration is looking into that as well,” he told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.
