New Delhi. Electric vehicles are considered to be the future of mobility. The government is also promoting electric cars and other EVs including electric two-wheelers. In the last few years, the number of people buying electric vehicles in India has also increased significantly. But, a recent survey has revealed that more than half of the people who bought EVs are not happy with their decision. Now they want to buy a vehicle with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) again. That is, they feel that a vehicle running on diesel, petrol or CNG is the right one. 500 electric vehicle owners from Delhi, NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru were included in this survey.
This survey was conducted by Park Plus. 51 percent of the people surveyed said that they are regretting their decision to buy an EV. There are many problems with EVs, due to which they have to face trouble every day. Due to lack of sufficient charging stations, problems in regular maintenance and very low resale value, EV owners believe that buying an electric vehicle is not a profitable deal.

The biggest problem is charging
According to the survey, finding an accessible, safe and functional charging station was the biggest concern for 88% of electric vehicle owners. Despite having more than 20,000 EV charging stations in India, EV owners felt that the visibility of these stations is very poor and finding them is a difficult task. EV owners prefer short urban trips with limited distances of less than 50 km.
Difficulty in maintenance
73 percent of EV owners surveyed said that their EV cars are like a “black box” which they could not understand. Their maintenance is a big problem. Local mechanics cannot solve minor problems and the vehicle has to be taken to the company’s authorized dealer. Apart from this, there is no transparency about the cost of repairs.
Very low resale value
The resale value of EV vehicles is very low. There is no logical way to determine the value of a vehicle. This is the reason that if an EV has to be sold, it fetches very little value. On the other hand, the resale value of a diesel, petrol or CNG vehicle can be evaluated in a better way. The resale value can be calculated on the basis of the condition of the vehicle and the kilometres travelled by it till now.
