US President Donald Trump said that he is planning to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday morning to discuss ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
He also mentioned that he would talk with several representatives of NATO member countries with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelansky.
“Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will be, and it will be a very violent war, a war that would never have happened. God bless us all !!!,” He wrote in a post on the truth social.
Vance meets Zelansky in Rome
Earlier on Sunday, US vice -president JD Vance met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome during the opening mass of Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter Square in Vatican City.
A statement by the Vice President’s Office said that the meeting focused on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the two leaders emphasized their general goal of ending violence in Ukraine.
US State Secretary Marco Rubio also attended the meeting.
The two parties also discussed the current status of interaction between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, Turki, which aims to achieve a ceasefire and establish permanent peace in the region.

Earlier, US State Secretary Marco Rubio spoke with Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov and welcomed the prisoner exchange agreement arrived during the Russia-Ukraine Talk. Looking at his conversation on Saturday, Rubio reiterated Trump’s message, stating, “Death and destruction should be stopped.”
Secretary Rubio welcomed the prisoner exchange agreement during the May 16 session of the Ukraine-Russia talks and gave a strong message from President Trump: “The United States is committed to achieving a permanent end for the Russia-Ukraine war,” according to the US State Department.
The statement said, “The comprehensive peace plan proposed by the United States carried forward the best way. The Secretary emphasized President Trump’s call to end the ceasefire and violence immediately.”
