Leader of the Leader (LOP) in the Lok Sabha on Thursday launched another attack on the Election Commission of India, in which what he said to the alleged “vote chori”, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), accusing Gyanesh Kumar, claiming that he claimed that he had “destroyed Indian democracy.”
Speaking at a press conference at the Indira Bhavan Auditorium, the Leader of the Opposition cited the Aland constituency in Karnataka, where he alleged that “targeted” attempts were made to remove 6,018 votes. The Congress leader claimed that 6,018 applications were filed to implement voters and the file was automatically done using a mobile number from outside Karnataka.
The Election Commission of India responded with a denial of five points with point number 4, with ‘failed attempts to remove voters in the Alund assembly constituency’.
The pole panel said, “In 2023, some unsuccessful attempts were made to remove voters in the Alund Assembly constituency and an FIR was filed by the ECI’s right to investigate the matter,” said the pole panel.
What happened in Alund seat in February 2023?
Therefore, with the entry of EC, there were efforts to remove voters in the said assembly seat in 2023. What happened really then?
Well, the matter returned in February 2023, when senior Congress leader and then Alund candidate Bra Patil was alerted about several applications for voter deletion in his constituency, without the knowledge of voters. Patil filed a complaint with the pole panel.
“One of the booth level officers [BLOs] A Form 7 application was received when he did not even apply to remove his brother’s vote. His brother was my supporter. The application was made in the same village in the name of another voter, which was not even known about it. It took us down, ”Patil told us Hindu Newspaper.
Patil had a narrow margin of 697 votes against a BJP candidate in the 2018 assembly elections. However, he upheld the seat in the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections, in which the Congress party came back to power in the state.
Many voters whose names were sought to be removed and whose credibility was misused to make Form 7 application, had filed complaints with the Aland Tehsildar, then objecting to the inclusion of names/removal of voters.
On February 21, 2023, in his complaint to the Aland police, in 6,018 cases, only 24 applications were real, as the voters said in their report before this month, Mamta Devi said that on 21 February 2023, the Aland police had said in her complaint, Mamata, Kalaburagi. An FIR (26/2023 Alnd PS) was registered to provide forgery, copying and false documents against unknown persons.
Eventually, these 5,994 voter names (6,018 cases were not flagged) were not removed and they could vote in the 2023 election, but the case is under investigation.
The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Karnataka Police, where after two-and-a-half years of investigation, the footpath has cooled down. Rahul Gandhi said in his Thursday presser that Karnataka CID wrote to ECI several times seeking details about voter deletion efforts.
The Hindu report quoted sources as saying that in September 2023, ECI shared data for more than 5,700 forged form 7. While there were adequate data about more than 4,400 applications, the rest had incomplete data. The Hindu said that ECI also provided mobile numbers used to create login IDs and passwords on three apps of ECI, through which all fake Form 7 was presented, in addition to IP logs, the Hindu said.
Kharge first flagged off this issue
On 7 September, Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge accused the pole panel of having “important information”, claiming that effectively saving those behind the alleged “vote theft”.
Why has ECI suddenly blocked the important evidence? Who is this?
Kharge shared HinduThe report of the X and reportedly about the issue while the ECI had already shared the part of the documents required to detect the forgery, it has now stoned the important information – effectively saving those behind the vote chori!
“Why ECI has suddenly blocked the important evidence. Who is this? The Congress chief said. Kharge said,” There is a need to preserve the person’s right to vote. “
