Mumbai Famous Bengali actress Anjana Bhowmik passed away. She was 79 years old. Died in a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday. He has two daughters in his family, Neelanjana Sengupta and Chandana Sharma. Neelanjana is married to popular actor Jisshu Sengupta. Jisshu had given a strong performance in the recently released film anthology film Lantarani. In this he was seen with Johnny Lever. Anjana was the mother-in-law of Jishu Sengupta. Anjana’s family is saddened by her demise.
Anjana Bhowmik’s family members told the media that she was suffering from age-related diseases for some time. Because of this she was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. Expressing condolences on the demise of Anjana, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I condole the demise of actress Anjana Bhowmik. His death is an irreparable loss for the Bengali film industry. I express my condolences to his family and fans.”

Anjana Bhowmik gained popularity with the hit film ‘Chowrangi’ released in 1968. In this she played the role of Sujata Mitra. Critics praised him a lot for this character. Many critics believe that despite her acting talent, Anjana did not reach the heights of popularity she deserved as there were other top actresses of her time like Suchitra Sen, Sabitri Chattopadhyay and Supriya Devi.

However, in the films in which Anjana Bhowmik appeared in lead roles, she made a place in the hearts of the audience with her natural acting and talent and also received appreciation from the critics. Apart from ‘Chowrangi’, Anjana worked with Uttam Kumar in other lead actress films like ‘Nayika Sangbad’, ‘Thana Theke Ashchi’ and ‘Mahashweta’. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Government of West Bengal in 2012.
