US authorities on Wednesday imposed sanctions on more than a dozen Indian companies and two Indian nationals for ‘aiding’ Russia’s war against Ukraine. The list, released by the US Treasury and State departments, included nearly 400 entities and individuals from more than a dozen different countries.
“The United States is imposing sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals for enabling Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine. “This action targets multiple areas essential to Russia’s war effort,” a press statement from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken began.
The move is intended to curtail the sale of various commodities and “other critical dual-use goods”, including critical components on which Russian weapons systems depend for the war against Ukraine. This development has come at a time when relations between India and America have become tense due to the conspiracy to assassinate Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Washington has accused former Indian intelligence officer Vikash Yadav of directing the failed attack.
The US State Department this week sanctioned more than 120 individuals and entities, while the Treasury Department added more than 270 others to the list, according to an official release.
Two Indian nationals – Vivek Kumar Mishra and Sudhir Kumar – were also sanctioned along with his company. Delhi-based aircraft spare parts company Ascend Aviation India has been included in the list to ship CHPL items to Russia – including US-origin aircraft parts.
India-based Futrevo was among the companies sanctioned by the State Department on Wednesday. It has been accused of being involved in supplying high priority items to Russia-based Orlan drone manufacturer.
Treasury also targeted Shreya Life Sciences Pvt Ltd, which has allegedly sent hundreds of shipments of US-trademarked technology to Russia since 2023 – totaling millions of dollars.
According to the Treasury Department, many Indian companies are sending dual-use goods to Russia.
