UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2025: Learn when to report on the exam venue and other important details to remember.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to conduct the Civil Services Mains Examination 2025 since Friday, August 22, 2025. The exam will be held in two shifts – Shift 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, and Shift 2 will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

On the first day, candidates will appear for essay paper.
Candidates appearing for the examination should follow a set of instructions on the Examination Day to avoid any inconvenience. These some guidelines are as follows:
- Candidates must essentially print out the print out of the e-admit card as well as the original photo identity card in each session as well as to secure the admission in the examination hall. The e-ADMIT card should be preserved until the announcement of the final result of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2025 reported by the Commission.
- Reporting time: The examination venue will be closed 30 minutes before the scheduled examination starts. In other words, the entry will close for the forenson session at 8:30 am and for the afternoon session at 2 pm. After the closure of the admission, no candidate will be allowed to enter the examination venue.
- Candidates are advised to enter the examination venue in advance for identification verification and frisking.
- Prohibited Items: Candidates should not be able to use mobile phones (even in switch off mode), pager or any electronic equipment or programmable device or storage media such as pen drives, smart watches, or camera or camera or Bluetooth device or any other equipment or related goods or related goods or related goods or use in switch off mode. Violation of these instructions will lead to disciplinary action including ban from future examinations.
- The use of normal or simple wrist watches inside the examination hall is allowed. However, the use of watches fitted with any particular accessory that can be used as communication tools or smart watches, is strictly prohibited and candidates are not allowed to take such watches in the hall.
- Candidates should not enter the examination premises along with any bag, goods, goods, goods/expensive goods, mobile phones, smart/digital watches, other IT gadgets, books etc. If the candidates bring any such restricted items, they will have to make arrangements to keep them outside the site and UPSC will not be responsible for any loss.
- Item permission/documents: Candidates can take with them as e-admit cards, pen, pencils, identity proofs, copies of self-photograph (whichever applied) and any other item specified in the form of e-admit card.
- Candidates are advised to advise to bring black ballpoint pen in the examination hall to enter the attendance list.
- Candidates can use scientific (non-prograble type) calculator, and can be brought by candidates if necessary. Programable type calculator is not allowed in the exam.
- Candidates whose photo is not clear on the e-admit card or the picture is without their name and date, will bring a photo identity card with two passport size photos (name and date of photo), to appear in the exam with an undertaking for each session.
- Candidates are allowed to carry water in transparent bottles only inside the examination hall/room. Any other beverages (including cold drinks) or any edible items are strictly banned inside the examination hall.

In particular, as per the official examination schedule, UPSC will conduct the Civil Services Mains Examination 2025 on August 22, 24, 30, and 31, 2025.
Civil Services Mains Exam 2025 is being conducted only for the candidates who have approved the preliminary examination, the results of which were announced in June 2025.
