Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking in the state Assembly on Wednesday, praised his government for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and also mentioned the controversial Gyanvapi and Shahi Eidgah mosques. Invoking Lord Krishna from ‘Mahabharata’, Yogi Adityanath said Krishna wanted five villages, but Hindu society is asking for only three centres.
“Everyone in the country is happy that Lord Ram has been installed in the temple. This is the first example in the world that Lord Ramlala himself had to give proof of his existence. But this teaches us perseverance… We were happy just because Not because Lord Ram got his place, but also because we expressed our views… where the temple was built…we don’t just talk. We walk the talk,” the UP chief minister said.
“This (consecration of Ram temple) should have happened earlier. We know the matter was in the court. But the roads of Ayodhya could have been widened, an airport could have been built. But who is this to stop the development? The mentality was like “Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura?” Adityanath asked.
Yogi Adityanath attacked the previous government for imposing various curfews and prohibitory orders in Ayodhya and talked about the injustice done to the city.
“During the rule of the previous government, Ayodhya faced curfew and prohibitory orders. For centuries, Ayodhya remained a victim of nefarious intentions. Ayodhya faced injustice. And when I talk of injustice, I think of what happened 5,000 years ago. One should also talk about injustice. The Pandavas also faced injustice,” Adityanath said, again in reference to the Mahabharata.
“At that time, Krishna went to the Kauravas and asked for only five villages. Keep the rest with yourself, Krishna told them. Duryodhan could not even give it, could not take the blessings of the society…,” Adityanath said. He said, “This is what happened with Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura…Krishna wanted five villages and Hindu society wants only three centers – the centers of our faith.”
The UP Chief Minister said, “These three centers are very special for the faith. There is a determination here and when politics gets involved in it, it creates division.”
Gyanvapi and Shahi Idgah mosque dispute
This comment of the UP Chief Minister comes amid the rapid legal developments between the Hindu side and the Muslim side on the Kashi Vishwanath Temple-Gyanvapi Masjid dispute and the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute.
Speaking about the recent developments in the Gyanvapi Masjid case, Yogi Adityanath said that after the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, “Nandi Baba” thought why should he wait? He was referring to the recent opening of Vyas ji’s basement in Gyanvapi Mosque where the court had given permission to Hindus to offer prayers.
plaintiff-state nexus
The UP Chief Minister’s comment came when the Muslim side in the Gyanvapi case alleged that the Hindu side and the state were working in collusion on the matter. The lawyer for the Muslim side raised questions on the presence of the state Advocate General during the hearing of the case.
“Whatever he (the Hindu side) has claimed in the suit is false… the statements made are absurd… why is the Advocate General here?… the state government is not a party… if (he is here) ) So there is something between the plaintiff and the state,” Bar and Bench quoted Naqvi as saying.
