The UAE government’s two-month amnesty programme begins today, September 1. The programme will be an opportunity for Indian nationals, who have stayed in Dubai and the Northern Emirates beyond the permissible limit, to either leave the country or regularise their residency status.
The Consulate General of India (CGI) has issued an advisory laying out the rules and regulations for availing the amnesty scheme.
Following are the rules of the UAE Visa Amnesty Programme:
1. Applicants who wish to return to India can apply for Emergency Certificate and those who wish to regularise their residential status can apply for short validity passport.
2. Applicants who want an emergency certificate can request it free of cost at the consulate. It is free of cost. Facilitation counters will be set up at the Indian Consulate General in Dubai and Aveer Immigration Centre in Dubai. The facilitation counters at the consulate will open from 02 September 2024 from 8 am to 6 pm, CGI said in the statement.
3. Applicants can collect the Emergency Certificate from the Indian Consulate General, Dubai between 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the next day of submission of application.
4. To apply for a short-term passport, applicants can visit any BLS centre in Dubai and Northern Emirates. No prior appointment is required. Details of BLS centres can be viewed at https://www.cgidubai.gov.in/page/passport-services/.
5. BLS Centres in Dubai and Northern Emirates will operate from 9am to 5pm on all Sundays during the amnesty period to meet the requirements of applicants wishing to avail of the UAE Amnesty Scheme.
Further, the statement said that for any information regarding the process of issuing travel documents, applicants can contact mobile number 050-9433111 between 8 am and 6 pm. They can also contact the PBSK helpline 800-46342 (24/7) and reach out to the contact points at the Indian Community Association for guidance.
