Johannesburg: The South African government has accused former US President Donald Trump of making false claims. Police Minister Senzo Machunu said that the video shown by Trump in the White House was not the cemetery of more than 1,000 white farmers, as he said.
Trump showed this video in a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday. In this, white crosses were visible on both sides of the road. Trump said that all these are graves of white farmers. But Minister Machunu said that these crosses were placed during a demonstration in 2020, not any grave or burial site. In this protest, farmers gathered after the murder of a white couple. His son and a local citizen present there also said that they were temporary crosses, which were later removed. Machunu described Trump’s claim as “wrong story” and said that it is making a misconception about South Africa. He said, “These are not cross graves and it is absolutely wrong to spread it as ‘genocide of whites’.
Crime rate too high
The rate of crime in South Africa is very high. But the murders on the farm are very low percentage. Between January and March, only 6 of the 5,700 murders were on the farms, of which only one suffering was blonde. Former MP Laurence Bosman said that he too was involved in the 2020 funeral procession. He told that the crosses were planted in memory of both white and black farmers.
Funding was stopped
Trump issued an order in February to stop the American funding of South Africa. He accused the government of atrocities and snatching the land. Trump also said that South Africa is going against Israel and supporting Hamas. South Africa has rejected all these allegations.
