‘123456’ has become the most used password in India for the second consecutive year. This information was given in a report released on Wednesday. Password manager NordPass has analyzed the passwords used by users in 44 countries, with a special focus on the passwords used by different generations. It has been told in the research note that many Indians want to strengthen their passwords through special characters, but due to simple patterns, hackers can easily detect them. The expert warned that passwords created with the help of names certainly seem unique, but they can be easily broken through automated attacks.

Not only in India but also globally, 123456 is the most used password. After this admin and 12345678 are included.

Why is a strong password important?
Karolis Arbasiauskas, head of product at NordPass, said improvements in password hygiene have been slow despite years of awareness campaigns. Arbasiauskas further said that until password authentication methods like Passkey become widespread, strong and unique passwords are necessary.

He said, ‘About 80% of data breaches are caused by weak, reused or compromised passwords.’ The report also found that generational differences in setting passwords are negligible. The most popular passwords among 18-year-olds are very similar to those used by 80-year-olds. Passwords like ‘12345’ and ‘123456″ are favorites of all ages.
