The month of April is going on and already the mercury has started rising in most areas of the country. As summer approaches, the temperature reaches 40-43 degrees in many areas. With the onset of summer, the demand for air conditioners (AC) has also increased in the market. Usually, buying a simple AC costs around Rs 30-35 thousand, but while bringing the AC home, you have to stretch your pocket a little more. Here we are not talking about electricity bill or maintenance, but while getting AC installed, we are talking about an expense which is hidden from you or you are not aware of it.
If you are thinking of installing AC, then apart from the cost of AC, you also have to pay an extra charge of Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 for its installation. Whether you buy AC from e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Amazon or from the company’s retail store or from any other common retailer, you will not get relief from this expense.
Companies charge heavy installation charges
Actually, due to huge demand for AC, installation and service charges have been increased significantly. If we look at it, now most of the AC manufacturing companies have stopped providing important equipments along with the AC package. Instead, companies are charging customers separately for these devices or customers are having to buy them from outside. Companies have included these tools in the installation package which customers have to purchase separately.
Understand the mathematics of installation charge like this
Actually, you come to know about the extra charges incurred in buying AC only when you buy it. The company or the dealer does not tell you these hidden costs. This includes the cost of extra copper pipe, water pipe, hanger, wire and delivery etc. attached with the AC. You can understand it like this:
delivery charge: Dealers add an expense of Rs 300 to Rs 500 for delivering the AC to your home. If you buy AC online then delivery charges can be avoided.
Installation Charge: The company’s service agents charge Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,500 for AC installation. GST of 18% is added separately to this.
Wall Mount: Wall mount is used to fix the outdoor unit of split AC on the wall. For this also customers have to pay approximately Rs 850.
copper pipes: Companies provide insulated copper pipes up to 3 meters free of cost. If more pipes are required, you may be charged up to Rs 4,500 per 3 meter pipe.
Drainage Pipe: The customer has to pay Rs 500 for the plastic drainage pipe.
Power Plug: Companies have also removed the power plug supplied with the cable. Power plug comes in the market for Rs 100-150.
Most customers do not need extra copper pipe while installing an air conditioner, but drainage pipe, power plug and wall mount incur an additional cost of Rs 3,200. Most customers opt for brand installation because there is a concern that the warranty will be void if they get their new AC installed from a local vendor.
