Bollywood Blockbuster Movies: Many directors make films keeping in mind the pulse and emotions of the audience. Many scenes are shot as spectators, no matter how much risk one has to take for it. The entire unit had objections to a scene in a film released 24 years ago. Shooting was stopped for three hours. The entire unit disagreed with the director’s opinion but he just followed his heart and shot the scene and made the film. Then that scene became iconic. The film created history as soon as it was released. This film turned out to be an all time blockbuster. Let us know the interesting story related to this film…
The shooting of the hand pump scene of Gadar Ek Prem Katha was stopped for three hours. Mumbai Cross border love stories in Bollywood have always pleased the audience. In 2001, one such film was released in theaters which truly created a stir. One scene of the film became a topic of discussion in the entire country. This scene remained in the hearts of the audience forever. Slogans of ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ were raised on this scene in theatres. Yes, we are talking about the film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ made under the direction of Anil Sharma.
Anil Sharma told in one of his interviews, ‘When I was doing the hand pump scene of Gadar, everyone had objections. Everyone said that this scene should not be done. The shooting was stopped for two-three hours. Everyone was saying that the scene was illogical. I gave an example. Said that ‘Hero is saying ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, he is being asked to accept Islam, he is being asked to say ‘Down with Hindustan’, I am getting so angry that I might tear down the building itself. Hanuman ji had also uprooted a mountain in emotion. Tara Singh may not be Hanuman ji but the emotions can be equally high. So why can’t he uproot the hand pump? I was adamant. Many times you have constructive debates. Many people agree with you and many people disagree.

The hand pump scene was not seen in any Hindi film before. Anil Sharma had told in another interview, ‘Earlier there was a fountain installed there. In anger, Sunny Deol had to uproot him. Then a thought came to my mind that how will the hero reach the fountain? Then how will you uproot it? Then the idea of hand pump came to my mind. I got a hand pump installed at the same place. The people of the unit said that hand pump cannot be done. I said I have emotions, let me do this scene. I said that the public knows that Sunny Deol will uproot the hand pump and throw it away. And that scene became bigger than the film.
The film Gadar was released on 15 June 2001. This was a period drama film. Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Amrish Puri were in lead roles in the film. The story, screenplay and dialogues of the film were written by Shaktiman Talwar. Music was by Uttam Singh and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. The music of the film was a blockbuster. All the songs were superhit. A total of 7 songs were kept in the film.
The film’s director Anil Sharma is a resident of Mathura city of UP. Before Gadar, he had made hit films like Hukumat, Ailaan-e-Jung, and Farishta with Dharmendra. The budget of the film Gadar was kept at around Rs 20 crores. The film had collected around Rs 133 crore. This is one of the most successful films of Hindi cinema.
