Cruise ship service will soon start on Tehri Lake to promote Uttarakhand tourism. It is expected that the cruise ship will benefit the local people and encourage tourists to take up rural tourism. Cruise ship manager Vijay Bisht called it an “unprecedented move” that will boost tourism in the area. Bisht is also planning to promote rural tourism through this initiative.
“This is an unprecedented step keeping tourism in mind. Tehri Dam built on Tehri Lake is the tallest dam in the world with endless possibilities. This cruise ship will boost tourism in the area. We want more such activities here… Local People will benefit from this. People were discouraged after the construction of Tehri Dam, and this activity will give them hope… We will also promote rural tourism through this activity…”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government has decided to give 25 percent discount on Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) hotels to promote tourism during the winter season.
He has also directed the officials to strengthen the security arrangements of tourists for winter travel in the hill state. He ordered to make emergency management systems effective during inclement weather and ensure repair work on roads.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to promote winter tourism destinations and other hidden places in the state. This came after CM Dhami held a meeting with government officials at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, CM Dhami directed the officials to prepare necessary infrastructure to increase the daily carrying capacity of devotees in Chardham and also to create parking spaces for vehicles on the yatra route.
CM Dhami said that health services, cleanliness and safe housing arrangements are being given top priority. He said that preparations for the Chardham Yatra of 2025 have also started so that the pilgrims do not face any difficulty.
Uttarakhand CMO had earlier said in a release that every possible effort is being made by the Uttarakhand government to promote winter tourism and pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. The release said that as per the instructions of CM Dhami, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has made extensive preparations to ensure smooth power supply at these places.
During winter a large number of tourists and pilgrims visit major places of the state like Mussoorie, Auli, Joshimath, Dhanaulti, Haridwar and Rishikesh. UPCL has issued guidelines to field units to ensure availability of all necessary resources in these areas, the release said.
