Dhiraj Saini, a student of IIT Kanpur, a final year, was found dead in his hostel on Wednesday. This is the seventh such case in the institute in two years.

B.Tech students of one final year of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur were found dead in their hostel room on Wednesday. This is the seventh such case in the institute in the last two years.
The students, identified as Pilej Saini (22) from Haryana, were studying electrical engineering and stayed in room number 123 of Hostel -1. Saini’s hostel colleagues saw a smell coming from their closed room and informed the authorities.
“A police team opened the door and found that Saini’s body was hanging from a roof fan with a rope,” Assistant Police Commissioner (Kalyanpur) Ranjit Kumar told PTI.
He said that no suicide note was found. The body was sent for post -mortem, and the cause of death after the body examination will be confirmed.
Saini recently told her sister that she had planned to go home in December. His father, Satish Saini, who runs a sweet shop, broke after hearing the news.
“IIT-K has swallowed my son … I can’t explain how hard I worked to educate him,” he told the police. He said that Dheeraj was expected to get a job through campus placement by March.
The hostel colleagues described him as calm and said that he had agreed that he had gone home during the holidays. He did not investigate it until the smell started smelling from his room.
IIT Kanpur mourned the loss, assured full cooperation in the investigation
IIT Kanpur expressed deep grief over Dheeraj Saini’s death and assured that it was fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.
In an official statement, the institute said: “With intense grief, IIT Kanpur mourned the sad and untimely demise of Mr. Dharaj Saini, a graduate final year student in the Electrical Engineering Department. Shri Saini was an active member of the Athletic team of The Institute. The forensic team in the ongoing investigation.”
The institute said, “The institute is committed to all necessary measures to prevent such unfortunate events in the future. In this hour of grief, the institute expresses its condolences to the bereaved family and prays to find strength for them,” the institute said.
