How Yoga did Dr. Help Prasad to relieve knee pain
Explaining how all this started, Dr. Prasad says, “I think about 55 or so I started having knee pain and my wife kept telling me that I know yoga should start. I am not doing exaggeration. Perhaps 2, 3 months of yoga, pain disappeared completely.”
Considering his recovery, he says, “Today, if you ask me if it was my right knee or left a left knee, I have forgotten. And then, every alternative day, I do yoga.
Dr. Prasad also recalled his small days, saying, “As a young man, as a medical student, I used to be a bodybuilder, martial artist.” Despite their earlier fitness, knee pain is still increased later in life, but yoga proved to be a simple, effective solution that he needed.
What research shows
According to a 2018 study published in Journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, a week’s integrated approach to the Yoga Therapy (IayT) greatly improved various physical and functional results in individuals with osteoarthritis of the knee. Participants of the yoga group showed a significant decrease in time and go (tug) testing time, compared to the control group, improving handgrip power, and flexions and extensions of the knee.
These findings suggest that yoga can be an effective, accessible and cost -effective intervention for managing symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee.
