New York/Washington, 4 September (PTI) A decorated Indian-American Amit Kshatriya is named NASA’s new ‘exploration-focused’ Associate Administrator as the US Space Agency announced here.
The 20 -year -old NASA veteran Kshatriya, recently, was the most incharge for the Mars program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) headquarters at Washington at the Headquarters (ESDMD).
A NASA statement said, “Acting NASA administrator Sean Podfi on Wednesday nominated Amit Kshatriya as the new Associate Administrator of NASA, the agency’s top civilian service role,” said in a NASA statement.
Born in Visconsin for Indian immigrant parents, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and educated at the University of Texas in Austin, Kshatriya is only one of the 100 people in history to work as a mission control flight director.
He joined NASA in 2003. Kshatriya was decorated with NASA’s outstanding leadership medal as the chief flight director for the 50th campaign for the space station, according to his profile on the NASA website.
He is also a recipient of a Silver Snupi, who is an award astronaut for excellent performance contributing to flight safety, for his functions as a key robotics officer for the Commercial Orbiting Laboratory Commercial Orbiting Laboratory Dragon Performance Mission.
In his new role, he serves as the highest ranked civil servant in the agency, and as a senior advisor to Dafi, said NASA.
The Kshatriya agency along with 10 center directors leads the Mission Directorate Associate Administrators at NASA Headquarters in Washington. He also serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the agency.
Earlier in his role as sub -in -charge of the Moon to Mars program, Kshatriya was responsible for planning and implementation of the program for crew missions for the moon through the Artemis campaign in preparation for the first mission of humanity on Mars.
The statement said, “Promoting Kshatriya for NASA’s top rank returned to America through Artemis at the core of our agency. This step describes the severity of President Donald J Trump and Dafi on the moon and to return to Americans before China,” the statement says.
Dafi said, “Amit has spent more than two decades as a dedicated public servant in NASA, working to pursue the US leadership in space. Under his leadership, the agency will chart an adventure to return to the moon during President Trump’s tenure.”
“The knowledge of Amit’s knowledge, integrity, and unwavering commitment to lead a new era of investigation makes him uniquely qualified to lead our agency as an associate administrator. With Amit we will continue to carry on the boundaries of what is possible,” he said.
The statement said that the Kshatriya’s promotion also indicates how the Trump administration sees the commercial space sector as an American economic engine. By putting a proven leader on the top, NASA is ready to partner more closely with America’s rapidly growing space industry, develops the space economy, and ensures that the future of investigation in the United States is created.
The statement said that Kshatriya NASA’s executive leadership brings unique operations and strategic experiences for the team.
According to Caltech alumni blog, Kshatriya’s father, an engineer, and mother, a chemist, – both Indian migrants – emphasized the importance of an education in mathematics and science.
He and his wife have three children.
