Union Minister Suresh Gopi has described former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as the ‘real builder’ of the country after independence. Amidst the uproar over Gopi’s statement, Gopi said that Indira Gandhi is the mother of India. Lok Sabha MP and the only BJP leader from Kerala, Gopi said that breaking away from the Congress was an ’emotional’ decision.
He said, “My parents, my traditions, the essence of Sanatan Dharma – I have to follow all those valuable values. Just because Indira Gandhi is from Congress, I cannot refrain from holding her responsible for that brutal act. I consider her the real architect of post-independence India until her death.”
Actor-turned-politician Gopi claimed that the media has misrepresented his remarks. Gopi said that his reason behind leaving the Congress was emotional.
“Just because my father’s family was a Congress family, my mother’s family helped form the Jana Sangh in Kerala… I was in the SFI. But the reason behind my change was not political. It was emotional. I will live my life emotionally as well, acceptable to all sections of life, all walks of life, all levels of life…” he asserted.
