He spoke openly about his relevance, losses, discipline and the values that have shaped his long career. Sunil believes that even though today he may not be relevant in terms of traditional cinema, his commitment towards fitness, honesty and genuineness has kept him among the people. Sunil told that the death of his father Veerappa Shetty in 2017 brought a very painful phase in his life, after which he completely distanced himself from acting.
Sunil Shetty said in an interview to Peeping Moon, “I am not relevant in terms of cinema or box office. Relevance means that people connect with him even today after generations. 17-18 year old boys follow him. He cannot lose these people for money. He said, “Before Papa passed away in 2017, he was ill since 2014 and I was taking care of him. I was not mentally prepared. I had given up acting completely.”
The strangest thing that Sunil Shetty found was that on the same morning of his father’s death, he got a job offer. This is a hell show. He felt that this was his father’s signal that he should work. He became very emotional. It was not easy to return after staying away from films for about six-seven years. Sunil admitted that the industry had changed and his confidence had also shaken.
Sunil Shetty commented on comeback after 7 years
Sunil Shetty said, “When you take a gap of 6-7 years, it seems that you do not know your work, things have changed, no one knows you… I was not comfortable.” But after the pandemic, things gradually started changing. The time of economic stability and introspection gave them an opportunity to rebuild themselves physically and mentally. He said, “After Covid, I started looking at myself from a different perspective. I built myself, trained, studied and did many new things.”
Sunil Shetty did not advertise so that Ahaan and Athiya’s name does not get spoiled.
Sunil Shetty rejected the tobacco advertisement offer of Rs 40 crore, even though he needed money at that time. He said, “I had received an offer of Rs 40 crore for a tobacco advertisement. I told the person in front, ‘Do you think I will do this for money? I will not. I will not do anything that will tarnish the name of Ahaan and Athiya. Now no one even dares to approach me with such a deal.’
