Stree 2 actor Abhishek Banerjee said the problem is when someone is cast not because of their talent but based on their Instagram followers, which sets a wrong example.
Abhishek Banerjee is enjoying the success of his latest release Stree 2. what did abhishek say
During the conversation, Abhishek said, “This is a reality that I face both as a casting director and an actor. I have faced it recently. We need to break this habit. The problem is not that influential people become actors. If you can act, come from anywhere and act. The problem is when you decide to cast a particular actor based on his followers. You saw the auditions, shortlisted three of them… then you say all are good but the second one is really good. But the third one has more followers, this is a serious problem. It will trap us. By the time the industry realises that this is wrong, it will be too late.”

He said, “How long will a thumbnail last? It may attract the audience for the first episode, but no one will invest nine hours in a web show just because it has a following. How many people are buying tickets? Shah Rukh Khan has around 45 million followers and there are many who have even more, but is there no bigger star than him? So these comparisons based on followers are nonsense.”
Abhishek said that as a casting director, his job is to cast actors and not to see who is a popular actor or star. That is the producer’s job. So, if he has to cast someone, he looks at the merit of that person based on his craft, and doesn’t even care if he has a social media following or not.
Abhishek is playing the role of Janna in Stree 2, which also stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi. A sequel to the 2018 film Stree, the horror-comedy film is doing bumper business at the box office.
