Report-Manmohan Seju
Barmer. What can’t hobbies and skills do? He can grow flowers even in stone. There is one such person in Barmer who did not want to eat chemical filled vegetables available in the market. This person, fond of fresh fruits and vegetables, converted his own house into a farm. That too on the terrace and in pots. A complete vegetable market has been set up in 300 pots.
All types of vegetables are available in the market, but it is not necessary that they are fresh. That’s why people in the city are doing various kinds of experiments. They have started planting kitchen gardens in the courtyard of their house, vacant land and even on the rooftop and small terrace. Ganesh Kumar, a businessman in the border city of Barmer, Rajasthan, has planted a kitchen garden and that too on the roof of his house. This garden is giving them plenty of vegetables.
‘Best out of junk’
Many vegetables including coriander, spinach, brinjal, cabbage, radish, lady’s finger and tomato are grown in this terrace garden of Ganesh Kumar. Ganesh has prepared this vegetable garden after watching YouTube. The interesting thing is that he did not have to spend much money in this work. Only occasionally does he spend money for the garden because he has a simple fund – ‘Jugaad from junk’ and with this he has prepared his garden.

In Rabi season, cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, radish, carrot, tomato, peas, onion, garlic, spinach and fenugreek are grown.
everyone’s opinion changed
When Ganesh Kumar started the kitchen garden, his family members also taunted him a lot. Initially the family members used to say that it was completely junked. But when the vegetables grew, everyone’s opinion changed. Now the whole family cooperates in this. He says that there are many benefits of growing vegetables at home. Firstly, favorite pure vegetables are available at home and the expenditure is also less.
