Squid Game is officially heading to America. After three hit seasons in Korea, creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, will collaborate with David Fincher to bring a spinoff of the series to the screen featuring a new cast, storyline, and release schedule. As Collider reports, audiences can expect to see an epic crossover between the South Korean thriller while the games will be played by new English players.
The spin-off series was the talk of the internet after Squid Game Season 3 ended with Cate Blanchett’s cameo. While Fincher has been chosen to take over the director’s chair for the show, reports claim that shooting of the episodes will begin in February 2026.
Everything We Know About Squid Game America
With filming set to begin next year, it has reportedly been revealed that Los Angeles and California are the top locations for shooting. Additionally, plot details are still kept under wraps; Reports claim that the story will be set in the same universe as the original show. Although the American version is expected to reflect cultural changes, it is expected to run parallel to the Korean series.
While Netflix hasn’t officially shared the news, the show has been listed on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website, revealing that Zeus Zamani and Rhett Giles are coming on board to produce the series, along with Fincher and Hayes. According to Radio Times, a synopsis of the show is also posted on the website, which reads, “An American version of the Korean hit series, the spin-off is set in the same world, but we get to see how sports are handled in America.”
As far as the cast is concerned, Blanchett has joined the show and will take over the role of the salesman, which was originally played by Gong Yoo. The actress’ character in the upcoming show will be a bridge between the original show and the new interpretation.
