Shashi Tharoor, Tiruvananthapuram MP of Congress has urged Indian -American migrant people to speak for India between an increase in H -1B visa fee and 50 percent tariffs on Indian products. Highlighting the stunning “silence” of Indian-American migrants on important issues affecting Indo-US relations, Shashi Tharoor said that if he “cares for his relations with his motherland,” he should support India’s interests.
Shashi Tharoor led a significant meeting between an US Congress delegation and the parliamentary standing committee of India on Tuesday, 23 September, addressing H -1B visa hikes, 50% on Indian goods and concerns over US restrictions at Chabahar Port.
During the meeting, a Congresswoman shared that he did not receive a single call from Indian-American voters who urge policy changes, making Tharoor urged the migrants to be more vocal.
Shashi Tharoor insisted, “I want to emphasize why one of what we raised, Indian-American migrants have become so silent about all this. One of the Congresswoman said that a phone call from any Indian-American voter has not come to his office, which is asking him to support the change in policy.”
“This is something surprising and I think we all need to reach the Indian-American population, if you care about the relationship with your motherland, you will have to fight for it too, speak for it and make more efforts to suppress our political representatives to stand for India.

Tharoor said that US MPs were already “friends of India”, appreciating the country’s economic flexibility and migrant contribution.
“We had a very good journey from an American Congress delegation, including 5 members of the American House of Congress, all of them from the Democratic Party and four of them were from California, but they had tremendous interest in India. I think the most important message from them was that a lot of American opinions in the US Congress, which are related to India, are related to India, we are all familiar with India, we are all familiar with recent failures, hai, hai 1-hi-1 Setbacks, 50% tariff setback, ban on chewing port and various other things that have currently made life a bit difficult in Indo-US relations … ”Tharoor told ANI.
The committee also discussed future instructions with India-Sri Lanka relations and representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs. As the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Tharoor played an important role in facilitating the dialogue.
