Congress leader K Muralidharan on Thursday launched a scary attack on his colleague Shashi Tharoor, stating that “he should first decide which party he belongs to”. He said that the MP of Thiruvananthapuram should withdraw from his positions “If he feels he is unable to continue in the current set-up”.
Shashi Tharoor is being criticized by several of his party leaders for two reasons: first, to criticize former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s ‘Emergency’, and second, to support herself for the post of Chief Minister of Kerala.
Muraliharan’s comments shared a survey on X, in which he came to know as the top option for the post of Chief Minister in Kerala – where elections are going to be held next year.
Even if someone else is leading the survey, if the UDF comes to power in the 2026 assembly elections, the Chief Minister will be from the UDF, “Muraliharan was quoted by the news agency. PTI Saying this, reacting to a query on X on Tharoor’s post.
Muralifran said that there were many senior leaders in the Kerala unit of the Congress, who would be in the idea for the post of CM, no matter what the survey says.
He said that the party has a structure of rules according to which a decision will be taken who will be the next CM.
Tharoor ‘should step down if …’
Muraliharan hit his article daily in Malayalam in Tharoor, who criticized the ‘Emergency’. Reacting to Tharoor’s article, K Muraliharan urged him to choose a clear political path when he felt forced within the Congress.
“If there are differences, there is a place within the party to give them voice. But if they feel that they are unable to continue in the current set-up, they should step down from the posts assigned to them and adopt a political path of their choice.”
Two ways to Tharoor
Muraliharan said that there are two ways before Tharoor, while the Congress and party structure refer to the current dual role of the MP.
Given that Tharoor is a member of the working committee and the chairman of a standing committee appointed by the party, Muralifran said that he should focus on moving forward by focusing on his parliamentary responsibilities and party work.
“On cases where their opinion is different, he can express them within the party structure,” Muraliharan said.
“But if he feels suffocated in the current situation, to the extent that he cannot continue now, he should abandon the positions handed over by the party and choose a political path of his choice,” he said.
Pressure war …
However, Muralifran warned that choosing a path outside the two available options would affect Tharoor’s own political identity.
Muraliharan was quoted by PTI as saying, “If he proceeds on the path that is neither one of the two, it becomes a case that affects his personal identity. It would be a loss for both the party and both,” Muraliharan was quoted by PTI.
“So, as a fellow colleague, what I want to say to him is that he has to choose one of the two paths,” he said.
