During a joint press conference in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin shared a funny story with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s personal visit to Kremlin. Inside the St. Andrew Hall, Putin showed Anwar three throne, one -one person for Zar and Tsrina. The third was unbel.
When asked who was the third, Anwar quickly joked, “for the second wife”, made everyone laugh. Putin replied that this was a “true Muslim” answer.
The Russian President quipped, “This is the answer to a true Muslim, who is representative of Islamic culture.”
PM Anwar clarified that his comment was a joke.
He said, “I have only one wife, Mr. President. But, I felt it is a trick, a test. I said that the right throne was for wife, to the other wife. But later I realized that it was really for mother,” he said.
Anwar Ibrahim’s ‘Islamic Push’
In November 2024, the Malaysian PM denied claims that he was pushing Islamic concepts a lot in his government. Such allegations announced a plan to expand the role of the Islamic Development Department, Zakim.
Anwar said that criticism, mainly from some non-Muslims, showed lack of understanding of real values of Islam.

He said, “The responsibility is widespread, so that the values of Islam can be implemented, and they object to those who do not understand,” he said.
MH17 aircraft accident
During the visit, PM Anwar Ibrahim spoke about the 2014 MH 17 aircraft accident. This came soon after the United Nations Aviation Council convicted Russia for the accident, killing all 298 people.
Russia has rejected the United Nations findings, called them unfair. Anwar posted on Facebook that Malaysia would continue to demand justice and accountability for the victims and their families.
The Malaysian PM also shared that, during his meeting, Putin expressed condolences to those who lost 196 Dutch, 43 Malaysian and 38 Australians who were in flight.
