‘I am being asked to play the role of a Bhabhi’
Addressing the existing stigma against female actors, Rubina said in Hindi, “When female actors welcome children, they are categorised in a certain way… (Despite losing the baby weight) I am being asked to play overall bhabhi-type roles.”
‘The tenure of a male actor in a lead role is slightly longer’
Sharad said, “Let me tell you, this is a very harsh truth but it is a fact, you cannot deny it – the shelf life of a male actor is slightly longer than the shelf life of a female actor… It is not about being biased, it is practical. Because you (Rubina) came in (as a lead role) at the age of 18 and you became the star of television for at least 10 years, ab baari doosra ki hai (now it is the chance for others to rule like you).”
‘This is a big change not only for me but for my entire family’
In December 2023, new mom Rubina had spoken to HT City about being a parent for the first time. She had said, “Our twin pregnancy is the first pregnancy, so there is really no benchmark to compare to know which one is easier or tougher. We were preparing ourselves in these nine months. Even if it was a single pregnancy, the preparations would have been the same.”
Recalling the initial days of parenthood, Rubina also added, “There is a lot going on, and it is a huge change not just for me but for the entire family. Everyone is adjusting to this new life. It is too early to say anything about motherhood, but I can feel the change, and this change will take a meaningful shape with time. That is all I can see and experience.”
