Once devotees are seen as a journey for the elderly, Char Dham Yatra – A pilgrimage for the holy temples of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath in Uttarakhand – is now experiencing a puberty. This year, the journey closes on 30 April (today), inaugurating Akshay Tritia with Yamunotry and Gangotri, followed by Kedarnath on 2 May and Badrinath on 4 May.

A new wave of pilgrims
Call it wandering with a soul. Changes in travel motivations are being fuel by better infrastructure, social media storytelling and something deepening than selfies. According to ixigo, a significant 50% of the Kumbh Mela present in 2025 was less than 30% between 20 and 25 – indicating increasing interest in spirituality among young Indians.
For 24-year-old Vedanash Khuna, a Chandigarh-based analysts are going towards Kedarnath in this season, the pilgrimage is individual: “There is a bridge that I cannot explain. Official push
The government has responded by upgrading the Backbone infrastructure of Char Dham with a smartwatch and DSLRS packing with General Z pilgrims. Others, such as Vansh Gaur, a Delhi-based trip coordinator, prefer to keep it less. “When I went to Kedarnath last year, I was not thinking of reels or temple checklists. I just wanted to feel Vibe – Mantra, attempt of mountains.”

In Joshimath, from boutique homestay to eco-cafe in Guptakashi, spirituality now comes with rest.
