Rajpal Yadav reveals why his film Baby John failed at the box office and how lead actor Varun Dhawan reacted to it.
Varun Dhawan’s turn in large-scale action did not turn out the way the actor wanted. His previous release, Baby John, failed miserably and did not even come close to recovering its costs at the box office. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said that Baby John was ‘a well-made film in every way; But it did not work because it was a remake of the Tamil film Theri. Rajpal said, “If it was not a remake, it would have been the best film made in my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it had an impact on the film’s box office.
Baby John was directed by Kallis and produced by Atlee. It was a remake of Atlee’s Theri, starring Vijay in the lead role. Baby John, also starring Keerthy Suresh, Vamika Gabbi and Jackie Shroff, grossed less Earned Rs 50 crore at the domestic box office despite a budget of more than Rs. 180 crores.
When Rajpal was asked if Varun was ‘depressed’ with the box office failure of Baby John, he replied in the negative. After this he said, “Varun is a very sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different and his efforts should be appreciated because taking risks is a big thing.”

Rajpal Yadav played the role of Deputy Constable Ram Sevak to Varun’s character DCP Satya Verma in Baby John. While critics panned the film, Rajpal earned some praise, especially for a scene where he tried action for the first time in his career.
