The Rajasthan government has directed all private medical colleges in the state to strictly adhere to the fee structure approved by the state-level fee regulatory committee, and warned any institute violating the rules of dire consequences, officials said.
According to PTI report, Medical Education Secretary Ambrish Kumar said that this action is in response to repeated complaints of arbitrary fee collection by some private colleges.
He pointed out that this direction is in line with the Supreme Court judgment in the Islamic Academy of Education vs. State of Karnataka case, which mandates regulation of admission and fee structures to prevent commercialization of education.
In a statement on Friday, Kumar mentioned that several colleges were allegedly charging extra by classifying 15 per cent of seats as “management quota” without permission.
He said that institutions found charging more than the approved limit will have to refund the excess amount with 12 percent annual interest.
Non-compliance may result in withdrawal of affiliation, recovery of additional fees from institutional assets and possible punitive action. The government said the order is aimed at ensuring transparency, curbing exploitation of students and making medical education more affordable and merit-based.
Meanwhile, MCC has updated the NEET UG counseling 2025 schedule, especially the stray vacancy round. Registration for NEET UG 2025 Stray Vacancy round will now open from November 4 to November 9, 2025. The option filling process will start on November 5 and end on November 9. Seat allotment will be conducted between November 10 and November 11, Round 3 merit list will be published on November 12. Selected candidates will have to report to their designated colleges between November 13 and November 20.
MCC oversees NEET UG counseling for admission to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and other related medical courses under 15% All India Quota (AIQ). These seats are offered in government medical and dental colleges across India. The remaining 85% seats are allotted through state level counseling conducted by the respective state authorities including Rajasthan.
