Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today. Amid Congress-TMC alliance deadlock, Jairam Ramesh said, “We will find a way forward.”
Jairam Ramesh further said, “Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi would be happy if Mamata Banerjee joins the Nyay Yatra in West Bengal, even if it is just for a few minutes.”
“Congress president Kharge has spoken to him today and we will find a way forward as his objective is the objective of the India Bloc which is to defeat the BJP soundly in West Bengal and in other parts of the country,” he said.
Ramesh said that his presence will greatly strengthen the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra.
“Without him, we cannot fight the BJP in Bengal and the rest of the country. He is an integral, essential pillar of the opposition group India. He has played an important role in making the India Bloc a reality,” the Congress leader said. ,
Ramesh’s comments come after Gandhi expressed confidence in the unity of the opposition Indian faction to fight injustice across the country.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ led by Gandhi entered West Bengal from Assam on Thursday via Bakshirhat in Cooch Behar district. It will take a two-day break on January 26-27 before resuming on January 28.
Banerjee had told reporters on Wednesday, “I had given them (Congress) a proposal (on seat sharing), but they rejected it at the very beginning. Our party has now decided to contest the elections alone in Bengal. “
Following Banerjee’s surprise comments, the Congress took a conciliatory stance and Ramesh, the opposition faction, said India “cannot be imagined without Mamata Banerjee”.
The CPI(M)-led Left Front, Congress and TMC are part of the 28-party India block.
In the 2019 elections, TMC won 22 seats, Congress won two seats and BJP won 18 seats in the state.
