AICC President Mallikrajun Kharge and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will address the party’s “Vote Adhikar rally” in protest against the theft of alleged votes at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on August 8, in -charge of the party’s general secretary Karnataka Randeep Singh Surajla said on Wednesday.
Alleging that “the Election Commission of India has become the election of India”, he said that the Congress party will not allow it to destroy and democracy.
Amidst a fierce line on the amendment of the electoral rolls in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleged on July 23 that the elections were being “stolen” in India and claimed that his party has detected the modus operandi of “votes’ bag”.
The Congress held an initial meeting for the protest rally on Wednesday, which was attended by ministers among Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, State Congress President and Deputy CM DK Shivkumar, Surjewala, hosts of party leaders, other senior office carriers and officials.
“Vote Adhikar rally will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikrajun Kharge at the historic Freedom Park on August 8 at 11 am.”
Talking to reporters here after the meeting of party leaders, he said that the rally is a clear call to clean the voter lists and to remove the fraudulent voters.
“This is a nationwide campaign … Rahul Gandhi must be giving you (media), as people of Karnataka and India are also, although you, how are the elections being stolen, a presentation, democracy is being reduced, the constitution is being provoked. The Election Commission of India has become the election of India.
Asked if Rahul Gandhi will issue any documents on the alleged vote theft, Surjewal said, “You will see, just wait.”
After the protest rally, Congress leaders have been scheduled to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission officials here.
The Congress initially planned this protest on August 5, but it was postponed after the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren.
Given that Freedom Park is a historical place and this protest is being conducted at such a place, following the court orders (against massive protests in the city), Shivkumar said that the state party MLAs, defeated (MLA) candidates and ministers will participate.
He said, “From each assembly constituency, in addition to Bengaluru, at least 50 party leaders should participate. Siddaramaiah, Surjewal and other senior leaders have held meetings,” he said.
Given that Bangalore and Karnataka have sent a message to the entire country on various occasions, the KPCC chief said that India block was also born here before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said, “This (rally) people have to inform and enlighten about the discrepancies in elections and to ensure that they know how to protect their voting rights.”
Responding to a question, Shivkumar said that Siddaramaiah is going to Delhi to participate in a dinner meeting of India block leaders on Thursday. “As I want to prepare for the protest of August 8, I will stay here,” he said.
