Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav will jointly address the media in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on April 17.
The Congress is contesting the Ghaziabad seat, among other seats in UP, in alliance with the SP as part of the opposition’s India Bloc. The second phase of voting in Ghaziabad is to be held on April 26.
The two leaders have not campaigned together for any of the ten seats in western Uttar Pradesh going to polls in the first phase on April 19.
AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will also hold a road show in Saharanpur in western Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Saharanpur is the only seat in western Uttar Pradesh where its candidate Imran Masood is in the fray in the first phase of voting on April 19.

The coming together of the two key opposition leaders is expected to impact the elections across Uttar Pradesh, especially in western Uttar Pradesh where 10 seats will go to polls in the first phase.
In February this year, Akhilesh Yadav had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in UP. Rahul and Akhilesh are expected to address a joint rally in Amroha on April 20. Amroha is represented by former BSP and now Congress leader Danish Ali, where voting is scheduled in the second phase on April 26.
India Block has named Congress’s Dolly Sharma as its candidate from the Ghaziabad seat, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named local MLA Atul Garg as its candidate. The seat is currently represented by Union Minister General VK Singh (retd), who won the seat twice in 2014 and 2019. This seat was won by Union Minister Rajnath Singh in 2009. Congress had won the seat in 2004.

Congress is contesting on 17 seats while SP and other parties in the alliance will field their candidates on 63 of the 80 parliamentary seats in politically important Uttar Pradesh as per the seat-sharing agreement. BJP won 62 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP in 2019 and 71 in 2014.
Both the parties had fought the 2017 assembly elections in UP together. BJP won the elections.
