Food safety officials in Telangana have found expired stock of urad dal and some dairy products at the popular Rameshwaram cafe premises here.
In its response, the popular restaurant said that the expired items were not meant to be eaten but were meant to be thrown away.
“The Task Force team has conducted inspection in Madhapur area on 23.05.2024. The stock of Rameswaram Cafe Urad Dal (100 Kg) was found expired in March 2024. 16K. Nandini Curd (10 Kg), Milk (8 Litres) Price “700 items were found expired. The above items were destroyed on the spot,” Telangana Food Safety Commissioner said in a post on ‘X’ on Thursday night.
On Friday, Rameswaram Cafe said the management has taken note of the comments made by officials for the Hyderabad outlet and is investigating the matter. An internal inquiry has been ordered to confirm the facts and take stock of each outlet.
A statement issued by Divya Raghavendra Rao and Raghavendra Rao, founders of Rameswaram Cafe, whose Bengaluru establishment was rocked by a low-intensity blast in March this year, said, “The stock found was sealed and unclaimed, meant for dispatch and not for consumption.”
The quick service restaurant (QSR) chain further said it has also ordered hygiene and standard checks for all its outlets across the states and would like to express its strong commitment towards providing best-in-class service to consumers.
Assuring cooperation with the authorities, the statement said that the restaurant has not received any show cause notice from the concerned authorities.
The management said it is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of service, hygiene, safety and welfare of consumers.
