The British royal family’s social media accounts posted birthday wishes for Prince Harry on Sunday, who is celebrating his 40th birthday. It comes amid long-simmering tensions between the Duke of Sussex and the royal family following the publication of Harry’s explosive memoir, “Spare.”
The post from the royal family’s account is Harry’s first public birthday message since 2021.
Sharing a picture of a smiling Harry with a birthday cake emoji, the Royal Family wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!”
Notably, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton, also shared the post, and added their own birthday wishes to it.
In January 2020, Prince Harry and Megan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced that they were stepping down from their royal duties. The couple then moved to the US with their children and said they hoped to become financially independent. They also signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify.
Harry famously shared his story in the memoir “Spare.” In the ghostwritten memoir, Harry shared his grief over the death of Princess Diana, his feud with Prince William, and the discomfort his older brother brought to his life.
‘My mission is…’
Speaking to BBC News, Prince Harry had said that he plans to celebrate his 40th birthday privately at his home in Montecito with his wife Meghan Markle and children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“I was worried about turning 30, now I’m excited about turning 40. […] “Whatever my age, my mission is to continue to do good and do work in the world,” Harry told BBC News.
He said that after the family function, Harry would like to go on a ‘boys’ holiday with some of his close friends. SunWhile the exact location of the trip has not yet been revealed, PEOPLE magazine reports that Harry will be joined by ‘close friends from around the world.’ His close friends include polo-playing friend Nacho Figueras.
