Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday said President Draupadi Murmu was not invited to the Pran Pratistha program and the inauguration of Parliament in Ayodhya because of her caste. Kharge said that former President Ram Nath Kovind was also not invited to the two programs for the same reason.
“PM Modiji says that we invited Congress party leaders to Ayodhya, but they never came. They are disrespecting God. But why didn’t you invite our President? Addressing a rally in Bengaluru Rural, Kharge said, you have not even invited the country’s first citizen to the inauguration ceremony of Parliament.
The ‘Pran Pratistha’ or consecration of the Ram temple was held in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024. Kharge was quoted in a Congress party press release as making these remarks during a public meeting in Bengaluru Rural on Monday.

However, the construction committee of the temple and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had invited President Murmu for the Ram temple programme.
In February, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also said that President Draupadi Murmu was a ‘tribal’, hence she was not invited to the mega event.
“Did you see the Ram Mandir programme? It was organized with great pomp. But did you see any Dalit face? Our President is a tribal, so she was not allowed to attend the programme. Did you see any farmer or No backward class face was seen anywhere during the Mazdoor Dekha programme, but you must have seen that all the businessmen, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Narendra Modi were there.
Kharge on Monday said that PM Modi criticized the Congress manifesto, but the guarantee declared in the manifesto of the oldest party does not mention whether it is for Muslims, Hindus or any particular community. “They (guarantees) are for everyone. “They are for all citizens of India,” Kharge said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday courted controversy when he said the Congress party would redistribute wealth among people ‘having more children’ if voted to power. The PM also cited the controversial comment of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in which he had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s resources.
