Congress MP Shashi Tharoor objected to the President’s mention of the 1975 Emergency in his speech. He said, “There is no logic in talking about the Emergency in your address after 49 years.”

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said that this is no longer the President’s address. He said, “This is Modi’s address for 10 years.” Raut said, “… Even after 50 years they are talking about Emergency, there has been Emergency in this country for 10 years, remove it…”
NDA leaders defend President’s speech

LJP (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Chaudhary said that the job of the opposition is to always keep saying something or the other. She said, “I believe that the President told us in a very concise manner what the NDA government has done for the country and what they want to do for the country in the future. He gave information about every scheme, people who became MPs for the first time got to learn a lot from his speeches…”
