Political strategist turned social activist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj campaign will be named as a political party on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Jan Suraj campaign, which started as a campaign in Bihar, will be registered as a political party this year.
“As stated earlier, Jan Suraj will become a political party on October 2 and will contest the assembly elections next year. Other details like party leadership will be decided in due course of time,” said Kishor, who launched the campaign two years ago.
Prashant Kishor, founder of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), announced earlier this month that Jan Suraj will contest the 2025 Bihar assembly elections. Kishor also pointed out that Jan Suraj is receiving significant support from the Muslim community in Bihar.
Prashant Kishor had announced plans for his party Jan Suraj to contest all 243 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
With an aim to broaden the representation, Kishor had also expressed his intention to field at least 75 candidates from the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) category under the Jan Suraj banner.
Prashant Kishore has been an election strategist for prominent politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Kishor has confirmed that Jan Suraj will contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections independently.

Prashant Kishor welcomed the entry of Jagriti Thakur, daughter of the younger son of Bharat Ratna-awarded socialist leader Virendra Nath Thakur.
Late Thakur’s elder son Ram Nath Thakur is a JD(U) MP and Union Minister of State.
Others who joined Jan Suraj included former RJD MLC Rambali Singh Chandravanshi, who was recently disqualified from the Legislative Council on grounds of indiscipline, and Anand Mishra, a former IPS officer who resigned from service hoping for a ticket from the BJP but contested the Lok Sabha election as an Independent from Buxar after being denied the ticket.

Prashant Kishore accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of touching the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to maintain his position in power.
Kishor, who managed the JD(U) president’s election campaign in 2015 and formally joined the party two years later, said, “People ask me why I am criticising Nitish Kumar now even though I have worked with him earlier. He was a different person then. His conscience was not sold.”
Kishore said, “Nitish Kumar has shamed Bihar by touching Modi’s feet.”
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) won 12 seats, making it the second-largest ally of the BJP, which fell short of a majority on its own.
