Poems of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee are now part of the postgraduate English course of Delhi University under post -paper Indian writers in Semester 1, which is as part of a large course amendment in Versity’s Executive Council meeting on Friday.
Vajpayee, who served as Prime Minister for three conditions between 1996 and 2004, is also remembered for his passionate poetry focused on topics of nationalism, culture and tradition.

However, the move has criticized some academic quarters.
Rudrashish Chakraborty, an elected member of the Executive Council (E), questioned the literature value of Valui’s poems, stating that Sudama Pandey “Dhol”, Suryakant Tipathi “Nirala” and Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh better represents poetry of poet Er.
He said, “There is no point in including extreme political pieces … Vajpayee’s poems did not take any literary value to be a part of the PG course in English.”
Another member Sunil Sharma clarified that the EC does not have the right to frame the course.
He said, “There was no discussion on the content of the syllabus during the meeting. The EC passes only the recommendations made by the Academic Council, which is a capable body to decide the matters of the course,” he said.
The meeting also approved course changes in departments such as sociology and psychology, and introduced new programs in journalism and nuclear medicine.
