Nepal is going through a chaotic situation these days. The new generation of youth spoiled the entire geography of the government there. Amid this situation of Nepal, its border with India was currently closed. There is a long queue of trucks. It has hundreds of oil tankers, who run between India and Nepal every day. Do you know that as much petrol and oil Nepal uses, it goes from India. But this oil is sold expensive in India but cheaper in Nepal. This is also the condition of electricity.

Petrol and electricity are supplied from India in Nepal, yet petrol and electricity in Nepal are cheaper than India. The main reason for this is the low tax and cheap supply-chain, while in India, they charge heavy taxes on it. Which increases prices.

It should be said that India has been working as a lifeline for its neighboring country for the last 75 years. India is the only country which is Nepal’s largest business partner. Luggage from India has been sent to Nepal very cheaply. At the top of this, there are petrol and petroleum products.

100 percent of Nepal’s oil needs are supplied from India only. Nepal looked at China for oil supply as an alternative, but it understood, it will prove to be very expensive. India, especially by laying an oil pipeline for Nepal, has also started sending oil from it.

Oil supply to Nepal always

Let’s start with oil. India has always been supplying oil to Nepal. Nepal Oil Corporation is completely dependent on the supply and distribution system of oil coming from India. No private company in Nepal can import oil from outside. This responsibility belongs to the government sector company Nepal Oil Corporation, which was established by the government there in 1970.

Large -scale essential items from India go to Nepal daily from India via trucks.

Hundreds of oil tankers and oil pipeline daily

Indian Oil Corporation is its partner company. The oil of Nepal’s needs goes through the IOC. IOC also does the work of supply and distribution in those areas of Nepal, which touches India.

On a large scale, IOC oil tankers keep running daily towards Nepal. The large part of Nepal is of the road. The train runs on a line of only 60 km there, so it can be understood that how big the oil from India plays for Nepal.

Not only this, a 69-km oil pine line was started between Motihari-Akhlajganj last year to supply oil to Nepal and easier. This made the oil supply to Nepal easier. According to the latest data, Nepal Oil Corporation buys 71673 kiloliter oil every year from India. The goods that exported from India to Nepal are about 28 percent of the trade.

Oil in Nepal cheaper than India

The price in which petrol and diesel are sold in India, oil is sold in Nepal at much cheap prices. Often Indians living on the border fill cheap oil from Nepal in their vehicles.

Hundreds of oil tankers from India keep running daily in the border areas of Nepal.

The Nepal government imposes very little tax on petrol. Many times give rate fix or subsidy, due to which the prices remain stable. In India, heavy tax is charged by the state and the center, due to which the prices of petrol are part of the tax of up to 40-50%. Nepal’s currency is weaker than the Indian rupee, which makes a slight difference, but the main reason for the price is tax and supply. As a result, petrol in Nepal is sold cheaper than 20–27 rupees per liter of India.

At what rate Nepal electricity

India sells electricity to Nepal at the rate of ₹ 3.5 to ₹ 5 per unit (INR). This rate is relatively lower than Nepal’s domestic hydropower production, making India an affordable and reliable power source for Nepal.

India’s investment on a large scale

India has invested in Nepal on a large scale. Of course, China is investing in Nepal very fast, but Indian investment is still much higher than China in Nepal. Indian companies provide jobs in Nepal on a large scale. Two-thirds of the need for Nepal goes from India. In which 100 percent petroleum products are supplied, then a huge amount of money from India also goes to Nepal as a pension.

Hey funds go from India as pension

The people of Nepal work in India on a large scale in the army and other areas. In the treaty that took place between India and Nepal in 1952, there was a provision that people of Nepal can come to India and not only jobs but they can also buy property here. However, Indians are not achieved in Nepal.

65 percent trade from India

India is the largest business partner of Nepal. Nepal does 65 percent of its total trade with India. In the year 2021-22, Nepal’s import from India reached Rs 1.20 trillion, which is so far. However, after that Nepal tried to reduce it. Nepal’s imports from India decreased to Rs 1.02 trillion in the financial year ended in mid -July 2023.

By the way, India is also the biggest importer of Nepal goods. According to the World Top Export website, 92.6 percent of the products exported from Nepal in the year 2017 were sent to India 56.7 per cent, America 11.2 per cent, Turkey 06.4 per cent, Germany 3.9 per cent, UK 3.4 per cent. Only 03 percent of goods were exported to China.

What goods do Nepal go from India

Now let’s see which goods from India go to Nepal. Apart from petroleum products, it includes motor, car, other vehicles and spare parts (7.8 percent), steel (07 per cent), medicines (3.7 per cent), machinery and other connected goods (3.4 per cent), power equipment (2.7 per cent). Apart from this, all other types of decorations go there.

What does Nepal send

The goods that India come from Nepal mainly include jute products (9.2%), zinc steel (8.9%), textiles (8.6%), thread (7.7%), polyester yarn (6%), juice (5.4%), cardamom, wire, toothpaste, pipe etc.

India’s role in Nepal’s economy has always been special. In the last two decades, many companies of India have established big projects there. These companies give jobs to thousands of people there every year. Other large number of Nepali also come to India and also do jobs. If India draws its hand from Nepal, then there will be a big shock for Nepal.
