People abuse this airline all day long, yet 60 out of 100 travel with it

New Delhi. Indigo is once again in the news. This time, Indigo’s name is in the news for a customer slapping a pilot in a flight. Generally you will see people complaining about Indigos on social media. From Twitter to Linkedin, Indigo keeps getting embarrassed. But you will be surprised to know that according to official figures, last year IndiGo alone picked up 60 percent of the total traffic of domestic flights. These figures have been released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

If this airline is so bad then why do people travel in it? There is a correlation between the large number of passengers traveling in IndiGo and its complaints. We will talk about this further. One of the major reasons why IndiGo is people’s favorite domestic flight is OTP or On Time Performance. Let us know what this is and how far ahead Indigo is compared to other airlines in this matter.

What is OTP?
In case of flights, OTP means on time performance. If a flight takes off within 15 minutes of its scheduled time then it is considered on time. If a flight takes off on or after 15 minutes of the scheduled time, it is considered not on time. Indigo is the third best airline in this matter. Its OTP is 68 percent. At the same time, the OTP of the second most used domestic flight Air India is 52 percent. However, the OTP of both Akasa and Vistara is more than 70. But here the frequency of flights also has to be seen. Apart from this, Indigo fares are also slightly lower than other flights. All these factors together make IndiGo the preferred domestic airline.

Then why so many complaints?
As we said, there is a co-relation between the number of passengers and complaints. Since Indigo has more than half of the domestic passengers in the country, it is natural that there will be more complaints. However, if seen from a statistical point of view, Indigo appears to be in a much better position. According to DGCA data, 0.52 complaints were received per 10,000 people in December. Indigo was the second best airline in this matter. IndiGo received 0.08 complaints per 10,000 passengers. Only Vistara (0.03) performed better than this. It is clear from this that due to the large number of passengers, the number of complaints appears to be high whereas it is not so.
