Barmer, Music has no limits. He has no caste or religion. Whether the singer is Indian or Pakistani, his fans and listeners are on both sides of the border. There is one such folk singer in the border area Barmer. We are talking about such an Indian singer, to listen to whom people used to cross the border from Pakistan to India in the dark of night and return to their country before dawn. This is 80-year-old Kumbharam, living in Dhanau, a remote rural area of Rajasthan.
Kumbharam Balach was born in Sakaria village of Pakistan. He started singing at the age of just 5 and had proven himself in vocal singing in his childhood itself. In his childhood, when Pir Pithora fair was held, when he used to sing bhajans in that fair, the crowd of students used to stop in that fair. At that time, his singing voice was discussed in the entire area.

Kumbharam settled in Dhanau village of Barmer as a refugee from Pakistan in 1971. The people around the tourists were eager to listen to him and the people of Pakistan started coming across the border to listen to him. Kumbharam Balach says that there was no fencing at that time. When he used to sing at night, people would come to this side from across the border. People used to come all night to listen to him and before dawn they would go back to their country Pakistan. Even today, whenever Kumbharam sings Vani with Veena in his hand, people get mesmerized.
More than 200 audio cassettes, more than 2500 songs
Kumbharam has now become old. But Saraswati is still there in speech. He sings the hymns of various saints including Kabir, Raidas, Meera, Surdas, Nanak, Narsingh Mehta. Remembering the days of his youth, a special smile is visible on his face. He is the only singer from Barmer whose more than 200 audio cassettes have been released. Till now he has sung more than 2500 songs with various music companies.

Today, the financial condition of Kumbharam is very critical and he needs government support. It is not possible to make ends meet through music.
