According to Dr. Dushyant Chauhan, hydration is important for joint health in winter. He recommends balancing hot drinks with adequate water intake to prevent dehydration.
Although drinking tea or coffee is a tradition in winter for many people, consuming these hot beverages in excess can have hidden health consequences. Dr Dushyant Chauhan, orthopedic and sports injury surgeon at AIIMS Raipur, in his November 17 Instagram post explained why it is important to limit your intake during the colder months and what effect too much caffeine can have on your body. Can Hot Beverages Really Affect Your Joints?
Dr. Dushyant says, “Tea is hot, but it can ‘cool’ your bones. This may sound a little strange, but let me explain the fact behind it.” “When winter comes, we drink a lot of tea and coffee to stay warm. However, the cartilage on the inside of your knees, the layer between the two bones, can dry out. This leads to increased stiffness in the joints and more pain when the bones rub together.”
How to enjoy tea or coffee in winter?
Dr. Chauhan explains that dehydration is often ignored in winter, but it plays a big role in joint health. “So yes, you can enjoy your tea, but it’s also important to drink enough water along with it. Staying hydrated helps prevent dehydration, which is common in winter, and is important for maintaining healthy joints,” he adds.
He adds, “People often don’t realize that what we drink can affect our bones and joints. Simple measures like keeping water intake adequate while enjoying hot beverages can make a significant difference.”
“I hope this information will help readers take care of their joints during the colder months. Many people have shared this advice after viewing it, and it is important to spread awareness,” Dr Chauhan concluded.
