Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that a notion was developing in the Center area that its state would not be restored as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could not win the assembly elections last year.
Abdullah said that the BJP was the only party that opposed the restoration of the state. Abdullah told the media outside his private office in Srinagar on 24 September, “Sometimes it seems that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not get the state because the BJP has lost the election. It is an injustice because it was not said anywhere that the BJP will only be restored when the BJP wins.”
The then state of Jammu and Kashmir was reorganized in the center areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh after the cancellation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
“If there is opposition to the restoration of the state, it is only coming from the BJP,” he said.
Abdullah said that the biggest challenge before his 11 -month government is that the states of Jammu and Kashmir are not. The Chief Minister said, “The way people were promised and informed to the Supreme Court, we expected it to have a three-step process: first delimitation, then election, after the restoration of the state,” the Chief Minister said.
In August this year, while marking the sixth anniversary of the cancellation of Article 370, Abdullah wrote to the presidents of 42 political parties, including Congress chief Mallikrijun Kharge, urged them to urge the Center to restore the state for Jammu and Kashmir to bring the law to the law in the then Monsoon session session.
“Dark and unstable” examples
It is called an issue that goes beyond regional interests and touches the origin of constitutional values and democratic ethos of the country, Abdullah was then quoted by the news agency, stating that downgrading a state in a union region is a “dark and unstable” example and is a “constitutional red line”, which should never be crossed “.
It was a bad luck for the BJP that they did not win elections, but people cannot be punished for this.
He said on Wednesday, “The delimitation was held, elections were held and people enthusiastically participated in the elections. It was a bad luck for the BJP that they did not win the election, but people could not be punished for it,” he said on Wednesday.
